Communication difficulties relating to Challenging Behaviours

What you need to know

Challenging behaviours can result from a range of different reasons.  Some of these include difficulties with understanding language, frustrations with communication, difficulties with social language, difficulties with adjusting to new environments, underlying medical reasons, challenges with processing sensory information (e.g. noise, touch, visual information) as well as many other reasons.  Challenging behaviours can occur in some environments and not others, and in some situations and not others.  It can often be difficult to work out the function behind the behaviour.

How we can help?

At Affinity Speech Pathology we are experienced in working with children of all ages who present with challenging behaviours.  We can work with the family and other team members (e.g. paediatrician, occupational therapist, psychologist) to help determine factors contributing to the behaviour.  We can help develop strategies and improve the skills of the child and family to help reduce the challenging behaviour.
