Global Development Delay and Intellectual Impairment

What you need to know

Global Developmental Delay (GDD) is a diagnosis made by a paediatrician.  It is given to children under 5 years of age who have delays across more than one developmental area (e.g. language, gross motor, thinking skills, etc).  Children with GDD often have difficulties with the understanding and use of language.  This can impact on their ability to understand questions, follow instructions, and communicate with others.

How we can help?

At Affinity Speech Pathology we are particularly experienced with working with children who have difficulties across multiple areas.  Years of working with paediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and psychologists as well as families of children with global delays have meant that we have exceptional understanding of strategies to support children with GDD.  We can contribute to the assessment of your child’s strengths and areas of need; and provide evidenced based intervention to support their development.
