Learn, Grow and Connect with Us

Here's how!

Step 1

  • Fill out our intake form on our website. This helps us to know a little more about your child, and the type of support you want for them.
  • Remember to include the days and times you are available for appointments so we can try and find the best time to suit your family. The more flexible you are about appointments the better as this increases our chances of getting you in for an assessment as soon as possible.
  • We will add your child’s details to our waitlist and email you to let you know that your information has been received.
  • When an available appointment comes up, we will contact you either via phone, text or email, so please ensure your contact details are up to date.
  • Please note that we do not offer before-school appointments and currently our after-school appointments are fully booked. Nyssa’s current clinic days for 2024 are Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays.

Step 2

  • We want you and your child to feel at ease, so we will have different activities set up based on your child’s strengths and interests;
  • We may ask you to join in the activities so we can see your child communicating with the person they love and know the most;
  • We will start our assessment of your child’s communication. This will look different for every child.  Sometimes this involves more formal assessment.  Other times it looks like we are just playing – but we are always working to better understand your child’s needs;
  • We want you to feel empowered, so we will aim to answer your questions and provide you with the information that you are after;
  • We will discuss our recommendations with you. This may include further assessment of your child’s skills, therapy and/or referrals to other professionals that we identify may support the understanding of your child.

Step 3

  • We will continue to support your child to feel safe and comfortable in our space;
  • We will assess your child’s skills in more detail – for some children this will include more formal assessment measures;
  • We will continue working collaboratively with you – answering your questions and sharing information and recommendations.
  • We will contact your child’s teacher or daycare educator to find out more information about how your child presents in other environments;
  • We will score assessments and consider all the information we know about your child.

Step 4

  • We will book a feedback session with you to go through the assessment results;
  • We will discuss your goals and what you want for your child;
  • We will work together to create a plan for support and a time for ongoing support.
  • This appointment can be face to face or via phone / telehealth – your child doesn’t need to be present, but they are always welcome.

Step 5

  • If an ongoing therapy spot is available that suits your family, and you are ready to get started, we will book your child in for intervention;
  • We will work together with you to support your child;
  • We aim to empower you with the skills and knowledge to help your child;
  • We cater our sessions to individually suit your child and family;
  • We seek feedback from you, so we know what is working well for you and your child.
